Shillingford, Pascal called up for first Test
Dominican offspinner Shane Shillingford is the only new face in the West Indies squad for the first Test against South Africa that gets underway in Trinidad from June 10. Dwayne Bravo will be Chris Gayle's deputy in the side, which also includes Sulieman Benn, who was controversially sent off the field by Gayle after a difference of opinion during the fourth match of the ODI series which the hosts lost 0-5.
Jerome Taylor, who injured his hip and left the field in the closing stages of the final ODI, has returned to Jamaica for rehabilitation, and was not considered. Adrian Barath, who scored an impressive debut century in Brisbane, was dropped from the Test side. He had earlier opted out of the A tour to Bangladesh citing a hamstring injury. Ramnaresh Sarwan is yet to recover from the left hamstring strain that curtailed his participation in the ODI series.
Grenadian fast-bowler Nelon Pascal, who toured with the side to England and was a member of the depleted squad that hosted Bangladesh last year, was recalled. Darren Bravo, Dwayne's half-brother who has represented West Indies in the limited-overs formats, was also included.
Shillingford, 27, had struggled on the sidelines with an action that was deemed suspect in 2001. After overcoming the problem, he has surged into the selectors' radar, most recently with impressive performances for the West Indies A team during the home series against Zimbabwe and the tour to Bangladesh that followed.
The second and third Tests of the series will be played in St Kitts and Barbados respectively.
Squad: Chris Gayle (capt), Dwayne Bravo (vice-capt), Sulieman Benn, Darren Bravo, Shivnarine Chanderpaul, Narsingh Deonarine, Travis Dowlin, Brendan Nash, Nelon Pascal, Denesh Ramdin, Ravi Rampaul, Kemar Roach, Darren Sammy, Shane Shillingford
Bell battles to keep England on top
By the time bad light brought about an early close, Bell was 87 not out from 171 balls, 13 adrift of what would be his third century in six Tests against Bangladesh. Like his 138 at Dhaka back in March, however, this was a vital innings that belied his (admittedly fading) reputation for soft runs, and without it, England could well have been in some trouble. After their floundering performance with the ball at Lord's, Bangladesh had chosen to purge their seam attack, with Robiul Islam and Rubel Hossain both discarded, and into the fray came the impressive Shafiul Islam, who struck twice in an incisive new-ball spell in the first hour of the day, and the left-arm spinner Abdur Razzak, who dismissed Alastair Cook with his first ball of the series, and deserved better rewards than his eventual figures of 1 for 67 from 21 overs.

Du Preez blow to rock Springboks
The Bulls scrum-half, who picked up his third Super 14 title with victory over the Stormers last weekend, has been playing through the pain barrier this season and with the 2011 Rugby World Cup in mind is set to go under the knife once he has discussed the problem with South Africa coach Peter De Villiers.
According to Bulls doctor Org Strauss the surgery will rule the World Cup-winner out for at least six months, ending his hopes of playing in the Boks' Tri-Nations defence and Grand Slam tour.
"The specialist's opinion is that it needs to be done immediately as there is a tear in the shoulder muscle that won't heal if he continues playing," Strauss told Keo.co.za. "We're looking at next Tuesday as the date for the surgery, and he would be out for at least six months.
"Fourie wants to play, but he has also been in pain for a long time now and realises the urgent need to have the procedure. He is so good that he's managed to excel while carrying an injury of this nature but it's not in his best interests to be playing. He'll discuss the issue with Peter [De Villiers] and agree on a way forward but it seems likely that he won't play again this year."
The leading candidates to deputise for du Preez are the Sharks' Ruan Pienaar and the Stormers' Ricky Januarie, who start as a halfback partnership as the Springboks take on Wales in Cardiff on Saturday.

'ICC should look at USA for future events' - Lockerbie
"In 1994, the soccer World Cup took place, and it generated great interest in the sport and it was followed by the Major League Soccer which started in 1996, two years later," Lockerbie said. "We are looking to do that too. We would love for the ICC to look at the United States in the future for some ICC events.
"We are well under way in a planning situation wherein we are working towards professionalisation of cricket in the US," he said. "We are working towards equalising what some of the other Associate nations like Ireland, Scotland, Holland and Canada have been able to do recently; beginning to put some of their players on professional retainers, and some of these players are now travelling and playing all over the world and getting IPL opportunities. We need to do that in the United States, and along with that will come a professional league."
USA recently hosted a Twenty20 series between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, and Lockerbie said that was the first step towards getting more fans to the game. "We are looking to bring in the best teams in the world," he said. "Even 14 years after the Major League Soccer started in the United States they are averaging 14,000, 17,000, 18,000 people to a match, which isn't too bad. But when Barcelona comes to play Manchester United in Philadelphia they have 90,000. Why is that? When Mexico plays the United States, they can get 100,000 at the Rose Bowl. So the point is that the soccer has a good history now of being positive. By bringing in 'Destination USA,' events, and what we think was a successful Sri Lanka-New Zealand series, we start that way."
The potential for investing in cricket in the US remained huge, Lockerbie said, given the country's infrastructure and record for hosting sporting events with success. "Well, our little game is the second most popular sport in the world, as I view it, behind football. With the great interest from the rest of the world, in the United States, people want to do business in United States. We believe that we are on our way to corporate sponsorship, investment in US cricket, development of facilities.
"The mayor of Indianapolis is very serious about building a cricket stadium; Indianapolis is often called the sports capital of the United States. The Indianapolis 500 just took place the other day, with 500,000 fans at the event, the world largest one-day sporting event. We know how to put on events, and their attitude is - cricket is the second most popular sport in the world and why wouldn't there be a stadium in Indianapolis.
"The city of New York has said to us that one day they would like to have a cricket venue, and they could see themselves as the capital of cricket in the United States. We could become the capital of cricket in the western hemisphere. This is a very big step, and I am hoping to work with my board of directors, our investors, and sponsors, to make that happen in the next three or five years."
In addition to making the United States, with its large untapped fan base, a prime destination for international cricket, Lockerbie stated two other main goals: ensuring the US national team qualifies for the 2015 World Cup and developing a youth programme by taking cricket to the schools.
While conceding Twenty20 cricket was the spark to draw more support for the game in the US, Lockerbie said that Tests and ODIs too, if played by the right teams, stood the potential to take off. "That's [T20] is the perfect storm for us. We are better organised, and there is growing interest. Even in the last five-six years, the amount of immigrants moving to the United States, who are cricket crazy, has just doubled and tripled. So we are ready to go with that perfect storm, the Twenty20 game.
"In the right city, with the right demographics, with the right two teams playing, I don't see why four-five day cricket is any different than Phil Mickelson teeing off on Thursday and winning a golf tournament on Sunday. You've had 60,000 people walking that golf course. Now if India plays almost anybody in a Test match, say in New York, we will have 40,000-50,000 people there."
Losing is becoming a habit - Chris Gayle
"I'm basically disappointed that we've lost so many games but, generally, everyone gets on well with each other," Gayle said after the fourth ODI which his side lost off the final ball. "The one downside is to get that win, but we've worked extremely hard, preparation-wise. It's just unfortunate that we are not getting the results out there in the middle."
Williams tips Warburton to improve
Wales round off their season with a showdown against the Springboks in Cardiff and a two-Test series against the All Blacks, with head coach Warren Gatland taking no prisoners in his quest to expose his young squad to the toughest challenges available in the world game.
Williams has been rested for the Tests with a view to next year's Rugby World Cup but he has tipped his rival for the No.7 jersey, 21-year-old Sam Warburton, to benefit greatly from a meeting with All Black skipper Richie McCaw.
"He'll benefit so much not only from the New Zealand game but also the South Africa one, that's a quality side they're bringing over," he told ESPNscrum. "The only way you get better is playing against the best sides and I think we'll have a few young players cutting their teeth and becoming much better for it. Fingers crossed we'll do well."
Despite the relative inexperience of the squad, Williams believes that there is a solid foundation to the touring party. British & Irish Lions Adam Jones, Matthew Rees, Alun-Wyn Jones and Andy Powell will all add their weight to the forward effort while the backs, including Shane Williams, Jamie Roberts and Lee Byrne, will be marshalled by Stephen Jones and Mike Phillips.
"They're champing at the bit, the younger boys who are going," he said. "There's still a lot of experience in there, the backbone will still be Lions players who toured last year. They'll throw in a few youngsters as well who'll get their first big games against the Tri-Nations. It'll just add to the depth of our squad come November."
Wales, as seems to be customary for their summer tours, are missing several notable players for the games. James Hook, Luke Charteris and Dwayne Peel will all remain at home due to surgery, injury and a rest period respectively. The biggest blow to their hopes came in the wake of Cardiff Blues' European Challenge Cup triumph over Toulon however, with loose-head Gethin Jenkins ruled out with a calf problem. The injury limited Jenkins' involvement during the Six Nations to a single start and Williams admitted that the Lions prop's absence is a troubling one.
"It's a huge loss but in saying that Paul [James] has had a few games and John Yapp has come back, so we have a little bit of depth," he said. "But to be honest he's pretty unique. Just having him around and going onto the park with him give you so much confidence. It's a massive blow for the squad but you've just got to deal with that."
'US a significant market and big opportunity' - Lorgat
"Sometime back there was recognition that the United States was a significant market and a big opportunity to spread the game," Lorgat said on Cricinfo's audio show Time Out. "There are a lot of people who have got cricket heritage living out in the US. It is a big market. So it is important that we play cricket in the US. I think the size of the market is surely an advantage. The expats who follow the game so richly; it's an advantage."
Lorgat, however, emphasised the US would not merely be a staging centre. "In the last couple of years in particular, we have been very conscious to get cricket played in the schools," he said. "We were quite excited when we learnt that the New York police department was playing cricket with people of Indian and Pakistani origin. So it's very much in our sights to make sure that people within the United States play cricket, and not just [see it as] a staging centre."
The US national team, though, has struggled when taking on the Test teams and Lorgat admitted it could be better. However, he disagreed over complaints that the globalisation of cricket had an adverse effect on the game's quality at the international level. "Established nations continue to compete against each other. If anything, some of our established nations should be picking up their level of performance," Lorgat said. "So it's less about the developing world and their competitiveness. I think it's about our established nations being competitive themselves.
"I think introducing cricket to any nation presupposes that ultimately they would be competitive. It's fair to say that by now they [USA] should have been a lot more competitive than they presently are. But we have said that they should be making a lot more progress. They have appointed a chief executive, if you recall, just about a year ago. The signs are quite positive, and I am quite optimistic."
Don Lockerbie, the chief executive of the USA Cricket Association, had admitted Twenty20 remained the preferred format for increasing the following for cricket in the country but also believed there lay a potential for the longer formats, too, to take off. Lorgat, though, was skeptical of the prospects for Tests and ODIs in the US. "For the people in the US who are accustomed to fast and short time spans, introducing Test or one-day cricket would simply be not possible to get them excited," he said. "Twenty20 is a format, that without doubt in my mind, you would get people in the United States excited with."
Robinson angered by player release
Gloucester quartet Rory Lawson, Alasdair Dickinson, Alasdair Strokosch and Scott Lawson were ruled out of the game, which comes prior to a two Test series against Argentina, by Premier Rugby Ltd, the umbrella group which represents Guinness Premiership clubs.
"Gloucester were happy for us to play their four players but PRL said they were not happy with that," Robinson said. "Basically, the PRL are upholding regulation nine and it is their right to do so, but what that brings into question is that the IRB really has to look at regulation nine again.
"Because I would agree that it is very important during November and the Six Nations, but with Gloucester not having a game, it is affecting the players' ability to train and play."
The players will join the Scotland squad on Friday, despite Gloucester having not played a game for three weeks. As the game falls outside of the IRB's summer Test window there is no requirement for the players to be released. England have circumvented the problem by paying Premier Rugby around £110million over eight years up to June 2016 to ensure access to players.
2011 World Cup tickets go on sale
"The prices confirm the promise we made that the tickets would be affordable and accessible," Sharad Pawar, the ICC vice president, said. The committee said that in excess of 100,000 tickets were being released for the first phase of online ticket sales. The move to make tickets cheaper comes after the debacle of the 2007 World Cup in the West Indies, where tickets were expensive and the grounds largely empty as a result.
Haroon Lorgat, the ICC chief executive, was happy with the progress of preparations for the competition. "While there is a lot of important operational detail ahead of us, I am pleased at the progress we have made to date," he said. "For example, in the next few months, safety and security aspects will be dealt with in detail by the security directorate headed by BCCI President Shashank Manohar."
Afridi asks for youth in Asia Cup
"We should have three to four new players along with the seniors so that we can strike the right balance in the one-day side. I think the time is right to start grooming and giving exposure to some of our young lot because we also have to keep the 2011 World Cup in mind," Afridi said.
Afridi was reacting to a query over the omission of 19-year old allrounder Hammad Azam from the 35-member long list of probables for the Asia Cup and the tour of England. He said that neither he nor team coach Waqar Younis had a say in the selection of the probables.
"The selectors had picked that squad but as a matter of policy myself and the coach want to give exposure to young players so that they can provide stable support and back up to the seniors in future," he said.
Afridi refused to comment on the controversial inclusion of Shoaib Malik in the list, following the reversal of his ban after being accused of causing unrest within the side. "It is something that concerns the board. As far as I am concerned whoever is eligible for selection is an important player for me," Afridi said.
Yawar Saeed, the manager of the squad, was confident that the team would not face any problems over Malik's return. Saeed was not with the team during the tours of Australia and New Zealand, after which Malik came in for harsh criticism from Afridi, former captain Mohammad Yousuf, former coach Intikhab Alam and tour manager Abdul Raquib, for his attitude.
"All these players have played before when I was manager and I faced no problems at all from them. They know each other well so I don't think it is a big thing if Malik or even Younis Khan is selected in the side," said Saeed, who was a member of the PCB inquiry committee over the side's performance in Australia.
"There is no personality clash involved anymore and the New Zealand and Australian tours are past. The code of conduct on tour is the same for any player. I am confident no player will give me or PCB any cause for complain."
No Indian team for Asian Games - BCCI
"We would not be able to send our team, both men and women, for the Asian Games in China because of international commitments," the BCCI chief administrative officer Ratnakar Shetty said in Mumbai. "We have communicated the same to the Indian Olympic Association."
Twenty20 cricket was formally approved for the Asian Games at the Olympic Council of Asia's General Assembly in Kuwait recently. India will be busy hosting New Zealand for a Test and ODI series in November. Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh are expected to send teams for the Asian games.
The contentious 'whereabouts' clause in the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) had also threatened to affect India's participation in major events like the Asian Games. The Indian players are yet to fall in line with the code because the BCCI sees the clause as an infringement on privacy. When asked if India's participation in the Asian Games was in jeopardy, David Howman, the WADA director general, said it would be up to the Olympic Council of Asia to take a call.

Dilshan falls after fluent half-century
The situation demanded that the batsmen show self restraint and Dilshan did exactly that to slowly shake off his poor form. It wasn't the Dilshan that we have come to know. He hit his first boundary off his 35th ball and it wasn't until his 50th delivery that he chose to rush down the track to play one a big shot. It was his abstinence against the new ball that really stood out. There weren't many flamboyant on-the-up hits, dashes down the track and attempts to force the pace. He did try to play couple of aggressive shots against the new ball but when he found that he was mis-timing them, he quickly changed tack and started to work the angles.
Dilshan broke free against a slower one from Ashok Dinda in the tenth over and started to find his fluency. He chose to play close to the body against the spinners - Pragyan Ojha and Amit Mishra. He used his feet to either go back or fully forward to drive and punch the spinners. He lifted Ojha for a massive six over long on and cut the errant Ravindra Jadeja for couple of successive fours in the 22nd over.
It was all looking good for Sri Lanka but Dilshan ran himself out in the 24th over to allow India to come back into the game. He turned Mishra to midwicket and hesitated before deciding to go for the single but couldn't beat the throw from Rohit Sharma.
Additionally, there was further drama, a touch comic in nature, when novice captain Suresh Raina forgot to tell the umpires that he wanted to take the bowling Powerplay after the tenth over though he had a field set that met the requirements of the Powerplay. He realised his error later much to the amusement of Dilshan and the bewilderment of his team-mates and took the Powerplay in the 18th over. It didn't turn out to be a costly mistake as this pitch demanded that the fielding captain attack with close-set fields.
Tom Sears appointed Kenya's new CEO
Sears, 40, who has been head of business development at New Zealand Cricket since 2008, was commercial director at Worcestershire between 2000 and 2005 and then spent three years as CEO with Derbyshire. He was widely credited with turning round Derbyshire's finances. When he took over they were making losses, but a restructuring programme had led to them reporting profits in his last two years.
Before that he was involved in rugby administration and also spent time as a journalist.
His first job will be to accompany Samir Inamdar, the board's chairman, to the ICC annual conference in Singapore in late June.

Du Preez pens new Munster deal
Munster have secured the services of Cheetahs prop Wian du Preez on a two-year-contract.
The Springboks international joined the province on a two-month deal at the end of last year as cover for the injured Marcus Horan and his signature is a significant coup for coach Tony McGahan. The 27-year-old, who made his Test bow against Italy last year, has reportedly become disillusioned by his lack of international opportunities.
"They [Munster] were really impressed by his scrummaging and commitment, and have made a good offer," the player's agent Stephan Weyers told the Volksblad newspaper. "We told [Cheetahs coach] Naka [Drotske] early on that we are considering another offer and were open with him from the outset. Wian would love to end his career at the Cheetahs."
Moving the other direction is Leinster prop CJ van der Linde who will return to Bloemfontein following the Magners League Grand Final against the Ospreys at the RDS on Saturday after and injury-plagued two-year spell. The 29-year-old, who was part of the 2007 Rugby World Cup-winning team, recently returned to the international fold for the clash with Wales on June 5.

Easter to lead England against Barbarians
Harlequins No.8 Nick Easter will lead England against the Barbarians at Twickenham on Sunday.
Easter, one of 10 survivors from the squad that tasted defeat in England's last outing against France in the Six Nations, takes over from Lewis Moody, who is on duty with Leicester Tigers against Saracens in Saturday's Guinness Premiership Final.
The side also includes Sale fly-half Charlie Hodgson who will make his first appearance in an England shirt since the summer of 2008. Uncapped Bath centre Shontayne Hape pairs up with Gloucester veteran Mike Tindall in midfield and there is an exciting back three of Northampton's Ben Foden, Sale's Mark Cueto and Harlequins' David Strettle.
The forwards include uncapped Newcastle prop Jon Golding and Gloucester lock Dave Attwood with Wasps' Dan Ward-Smith on the bench while Gloucester tight-head prop Paul Doran-Jones makes his first appearance in England colours since his debut against Argentina last November. A further uncapped player on the bench is London Wasps scrum half Joe Simpson.

Tottenham reach Champions League
Crouch bundled home a goal that could be worth at least £30m to Spurs with only eight minutes left after Manchester City's on-loan keeper Marton Fulop could only parry Younes Kaboul's deflected cross into his path.
The win that secured a top-four finish in the Premier League for Spurs was no more than they deserved as they emerged as the vastly superior side to Manchester City - who must now continue their expensive refurbishment programme in the Europa League.
And the confirmation of a place at European football's top table is a glowing tribute to the rejuvenation undertaken at White Hart Lane since Harry Redknapp took over early last season with the club languishing in the relegation places.
Peter Crouch heads a late winner as Tottenham secure a place in next season's Champions League play-offs with a 1-0 victory over Manchester City.
Borthwick ruled out of England tour
The Saracens lock picked up a knee injury during England's Six Nations draw with Scotland in March and was subsequently ruled out of his side's Championship loss to France. The 30-year-old has since battled to overcome a form of tendinitis in his left leg and has reportedly now accepted that he will not be fit in time for the tour.
England manager Martin Johnson will announce an extended squad next week for the five-game trip that includes two Tests against Australia (June 12 and 19) as well as two clashes with the Australian Barbarians and another with New Zealand Maori.
"Steve tried really hard to be fit for Saturday's game with Leicester but on Monday morning he said it wasn't right," Saracens' director of rugby, Brendan Venter told The Times. "It might not be a bad thing. He's played so long without a serious injury that a three-month break might prove a breathing space which in the end prolongs his career."
Borthwick, capped 57 times by England, had hoped to aid his club's bid to reach their first Guinness Premiership final with a potential home play-off semi-final up for grabs if they can beat title-rivals Leicester at Welford Road this weekend.
Leicester flanker Lewis Moody is set to retain the captaincy for the tour after being handed the honour by Johnson for the 12-10 defeat to Les Bleus in Paris. Among the locks in the mix for the tour are Stade Francais' Tom Palmer, Wasps' Simon Shaw, Northampton's Courtney Lawes and Leicester duo Louis Deacon and Geoff Parling.

Coach Potter to leave St Helens at end of season

St Helens head coach Mick Potter will leave at the end of the season, chairman Eamon McManus has announced.
McManus said it was Potter's intention to pursue a long-term career in the Australian NRL.
Potter, Super League coach of the year in 2008, said the time was right for a new challenge.
"It's always been my intention to one day coach in the NRL and it's something I truly believe I am ready for," the 46-year-old Australian said.
A former Premiership winning player with the Canterbury Bulldogs, Potter began his coaching career working as assistant to Matthew Elliot at the Bradford Bulls.
He returned to Australia to work as a coach at St George-Illawarra before being appointed head coach at the Catalans Dragons, taking the French Super League club to the Challenge Cup final in 2007.
He succeeded Daniel Anderson as head coach of St Helens at the beginning of the 2009 season, signing a two-year contract. In his first season in charge Saints lost to Leeds in the Grand Final for the third consecutive year, and were knocked out of the Challenge Cup by the Huddersfield Giants in the semi-finals.
"Mick has explained to us he has ambitions of possibly securing a place in the NRL and we wish him well in his endeavours," McManus said.
He has been a great asset to our organisation and he will be successful wherever he goes."
McManus said the club would begin a search for Potter's successor in the coming weeks but at this stage had not had contact with any prospective coaches. BBC online
Japan abandons 2018 World Cup bid
The Japanese Football Association has pulled out of the bidding to host the 2018 World Cup - but remains in the running for the 2022 tournament.
Japan's exit leaves England as one of six bidders looking to host either tournament, with Fifa to name the hosts for both in December.
Australia, Russia, the United States, Belgium/Netherlands and Spain/Portugal are also in the hat for both.
Qatar and 2002 co-hosts South Korea are bidding solely for the 2022 event.
Confirming Japan's decision to focus on trying to win the right to host the 2022 World Cup, JFA president Motoaki Inukai suggested that Fifa is keen for the 2018 tournament to be held in Europe.
"We were told European countries would be in a fierce tussle for 2018 and that aiming for 2022 would the best choice," he said.
Indonesia and Mexico had also planned to bid, but Mexico withdrew last September citing a lack of funding, while Indonesia's bid to host the 2022 tournament was rejected in March, with Fifa stating that required documents and guarantees had not been received.
England's bid includes a plan to use 15 stadia in 12 cities, including an expanded Home Park in Plymouth and new Bristol City stadium.
Bidders must submit their final 'bid books' on 14 May ahead of Fifa inspections in August and September.

27000 Free tickets for construction workers

The dreams of 27,000 construction workers in South Africa have come true as FIFA and the World Cup Organising Committee (OC) have kept their promise to give each employee two complimentary, category-four tickets to a first round match at the stadium they helped build.
The handover took place at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on Sunday, where a symbolic ticket was presented to the workers en masse. They will be able to collect their individual tickets from one of the eleven centres in the country from May 17.
The event was attended by FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke and OC chief executive Danny Jordaan, who both paid tribute to the workers. Jordaan expressed the OC's gratitude to the men and women who have worked for almost five years to build and upgrade stadiums.
"We want to say a big thank you to the men and women whose hard work, skill and creativity brought us to the point we're at today," Jordaan said. "It is amazing what you have achieved and we hope that you will enjoy your World Cup experience." The symbolic ticket was presented to Patrick Geqeza, who is part of the team that built Soccer City. Geqeza has been an employee at the site since the first day and was elected as the workers' representative. "I am really proud when I look at the work my fellow workers and I have done over the years," he said. "The chance to sit in the stadiums we have built for a World Cup match is a perfect reward, something we would have never imagined." The ten stadia, which Valcke described as "beautiful", are all complete ahead of the mid-May handover to FIFA, despite some delays because of construction worker strikes.
New Zealand in Super Eights after easy rain-hit win
New Zealand 36 for 1 beat Zimbabwe 84 (McCullum 3-16, Styris 3-5) by seven runs by D/L method
Scorecard and ball-by-ball details
Zimbabwe came into the tournament as one of the form teams after shocking Pakistan and Australia in the warm-ups, but they subsided to one of the lowest Twenty20 totals against New Zealand to become the first team to bow out of the competition. After making a sprightly start, they collapsed spectacularly - losing eight wickets for sixteen runs - to ease New Zealand's path to the Super Eights.

Torres may miss World Cup start

Spain striker Fernando Torres may not be fit for the start of the World Cup, according to medical staff at his club side Liverpool.
The 26-year-old is recovering from surgery to repair knee cartilage torn in the 4-1 win over Benfica on 8 April.
"Whether he will be fit for the first game or not is uncertain," said Peter Brukner who is overseeing his recovery.
"But, if he continues to progress the way he is, he should be fit to play at some stage during the World Cup."
Spain, current European champions and one of the pre-tournament favourites, play their first match in Group H is against Switzerland on 16 June.
Games against Honduras on the 21 June and Chile on 25 June then follow.
If they progress to the knock-out stages, Spain will play a second-round match against one of Brazil, Portugal, Ivory Coast or North Korea on the 28 or 29 June.
Boss Vicente del Bosque also has injury concerns over midfielder Xavi who is playing through a calf tear that may see him ruled out of the World Cup.
The 30-year-old is playing on in an attempt to help Barcelona hold off Real Madrid's challenge and win a second successive Spanish league title.
Bruker, who was appointed as Liverpool's head of sports medicine and sports science in March, believes there is a balance to be struck between the demands of club and country for Torres.
"He is certainly tremendously committed to his rehab, as are the staff here, and if anyone can recover from an injury, he can," he said.
"Hopefully we can get a compromise where he plays in the World Cup and he is fit and well for Liverpool next season."
Torres spent a month on the sidelines after a knee operation in January and was hampered by a troublesome groin injury before Christmas.
Despite the disruption, the former Atletico Madrid forward has scored 22 goals in his third season for the Reds, including 18 in 22 Premier League appearances.
Torres has an impressive record at international tournaments, scoring three goals in four games in the 2006 World Cup and the winner against Germany in the Euro 2008 final. BBC Online

Rafael Benitez urges Liverpool to attack Chelsea
Benitez is eager to see his players react after Thursday's Europa League exit at the hands of Atletico Madrid.
"Chelsea are different to Atletico but we want to win so have to play with an offensive mentality," said Benitez.
Meanwhile, Sir Alex Ferguson insists Liverpool will not "throw away history" by giving Chelsea the win to scupper Manchester United's title chances.
The Blues head to Anfield one point clear of United, who visit Sunderland in Sunday's later on Sunday. A win for Chelsea in the 1330 kick-off will mean United must win at the Stadium of Light to take the title race to the final game of the season on 9 May.
United boss Ferguson is bidding to overhaul the record of 18 English titles they hold with the Reds and with two games remaining, he said: "They've been in 11 European finals and won 18 titles.
"Great clubs don't throw traditions away for one game. The fans know that."
The 68-year-old Scot added: "Do you think the fans want to go home saying their players capitulated and they didn't try and thinking it wouldn't happen again?"

Ferguson would only pay £60m for Ronaldo return

Manchester United have struggled to maintain their dominance this season following Ronaldo's £80 million move to Real Madrid in the summer, and Ferguson has always insisted the funds from that sale are still available.
However, he insists it is not his way to spend £60 million on a player and says there is no chance he would offer a similar fee for anyone except Ronaldo.
Asked if he would pay that amount for Lionel Messi, he said: "No. I'd pay £60 million to take Cristiano Ronaldo back but that's about it.
"The market is inflated. Agents get in touch with our chief scout and say this player will take a drop in wages from £10 million to £8 million. And it's only £42 million now. So work it out.
"You bring in a player for a £40-odd million fee, then you take in their salary, with the euro against the pound, and the tax rate here, so with a five-year contract and wages they're talking about £8 million a year. So instead of £42 million, it's £82 million."
Ferguson again dismissed the suggestion his approach to the market has been influenced by the club's owners.
"The proof of the pudding is the eating, isn't it? They've given me £20m for three players already and any time we've asked - for Dimitar Berbatov for example - they've done it, they've supported it."

Rafael Nadal powers into Monte Carlo quarter-finals

Defending champion Rafael Nadal powered into the Monte Carlo Masters quarter-finals with a 6-0 6-1 victory over unseeded Michael Berrer of Germany.
World number 51 Berrer, who reached the final in Zagreb earlier this year, won only five points in the opening set.
He won 18 in total and there were huge cheers when he claimed his only game, but Nadal's forehand winner down the line sealed the match in 54 minutes.
Fourth seed Marin Cilic was beaten 6-4 6-4 by Spaniard Albert Montanes.
Nadal, winner of the last five Monte Carlo titles, also dropped only one game in his opening match against Dutch qualifier Thiemo De Bakker, and the clay-court supremo next faces fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos Ferrero, who beat fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-1 3-6 7-5.
"Juan Carlos is a player who has won more matches this year on clay and he is coming with big confidence," said Nadal. "It is going to be really difficult."
Second seed Nadal was on course for his first professional 'double-bagel' 6-0 6-0 success but sent a backhand wide at 30-40 in the sixth game of the second set.
It did not delay him long, however, as he extended his winning streak in the competition to 29 matches.
"I played better than yesterday because I played higher, I played close to the lines, and my feeling is that I had more control on the ball than yesterday," said Nadal.
"Good backhands. Very good forehands down the line." BBC Online.
Man Utd striker Wayne Rooney shortlisted for PFA award

Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney is among the nominations for the Professional Footballers' Association player of the year award.
Rooney is joined on the four-man shortlist by Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and Manchester City ace Carlos Tevez.
Rooney and Fabregas are also nominees for the young player of the year award.
Aston Villa midfielder James Milner and Birmingham City's on-loan goalkeeper Joe Hart complete that particular list.
Hart, 22, has spent the season on loan at St Andrew's from Manchester City.
Rooney, who has already scored 34 goals for his club this term, is favourite to capture the PFA prize and make it the fourth successive year it has gone to a United player.
Cristiano Ronaldo recorded back-to-back wins in 2007 and 2008, while Ryan Giggs was handed the honours last season.
Rooney, 24, and Fabregas, 22, will compete to join a select band of players to have won the young player award in the same season as the main honour.
Andy Gray, the former Aston Villa and Scotland striker, and Ronaldo achieved the feat in 1977 and 2007 respectively.
Both Rooney and Fabregas have already won the young player prize in the past. Rooney triumphed in 2005 and 2006, while Fabregas collected it in 2008.
Fabregas is currently injured and will miss the rest of the season after cracking his right fibula during the first leg of the Gunners' Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona.
But the Spaniard remains a key player for the Gunners, whose Premier League title aspirations were seemingly ended by their defeat by Tottenham on Wednesday.
BBC African Footballer of the Year Drogba, 32, has hit 32 goals to leave Chelsea on the brink of the first double in the club's history, while Tevez, 26, has also enjoyed a prolific campaign; netting 28 goals since joining City from neighbours United last summer.
The 24-year-old Milner, who looks like being a key player for England at this year's World Cup, is trying to emulate Aston Villa team-mate Ashley Young, who won the young player accolade last season. BBC Online
South Africans made to wait for World Cup tickets

Thousands of fans who queued overnight in South Africa finally got their hands on World Cup tickets, but scuffles broke out as computers crashed.
Some 500,000 tickets were sold at supermarkets and shopping malls.
But police used pepper spray to control frustrated fans and in Cape Town a 64-year-old man died from a heart attack.
The tragedy in Cape Town came after fans from all over the country had queued from Wednesday afternoon as World Cup fever gripped South Africa.
Fifa agreed on Wednesday to drop a rule that sales could only be made online or through a ballot procedure. Tickets for all matches remain available.
BBC Sport's news correspondent Gordon Farquhar said Fifa's integrated ticketing computer had encountered problems, resulting in long waiting times for queuing fans.
After three and a half hours in Cape Town, only 32 people out of a crowd of about 1,000 had managed to buy tickets.
"No one's informed us about what's going on. No one's directing the public outside," said Theo Spangenberg, who had been waiting for 16 hours and still had not made it inside the newly opened ticketing centre.
"For a World Cup, an international event of this nature, it's a really, really bad show."
The ticket centres opened across the country at 0900 (0800 BST) for the last phase of sales.
One man fortunate enough to get tickets was Malin Fisher, a 32-year-old trainee church minister. Fisher was first through the doors of a shopping mall in Soweto and spent more than 10,000 rand (£880) on six tickets, including two for the World Cup final.
"The internet and applying was a bit frustrating but to be able to buy World Cup final tickets over the counter, that was amazing," he said. BBC Online.

American Evan Lysacek wins men's figure skating title

Russia's defending champion Yevgeny Plushenko took silver while Daisuke Takahashi gave Japan their first ever men's podium finish with the bronze.
Plushenko was favourite but several wobbles in his free programme opened the door for Lysacek whose artistic performance won over the judges.
His overall score of 257.67 eclipsed Plushenko by 1.31 points.
It was America's first gold in the event since the Olympics were last held in Canada when Brian Boitano won in Calgary in 1988. Source : BBC Online
Jessica Ennis sits out Grand Prix with foot injury

Ennis also missed last week's World Trials and UK Championships in her home town Sheffield with the injury.
"New scans of my foot show it has healed a lot," said the 24-year-old.
"But with the World Indoors only a few weeks away, the advice from the UK Athletics medical team is to give it a little more time to completely heal."
Ennis had already qualified for the World Indoor Championships in Doha from 12-14 March. Source: BBC Online

Laxman and Dhoni extend India lead with unbeaten tons

VVS Laxman and Mahendra Dhoni both added unbeaten centuries to give India a huge 347-run first-innings lead in the second Test against South Africa.
Building on a 249-run stand from Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar on day two, Laxman hit 143 runs while Dhoni finished on 132 not out.
The pair helped extend the lead by 301 runs, with Amit Mishra the only wicket, before India declared on 643-6.
South Africa added six runs without loss before bad light ended play.
The visitors now face a tough task with two days left to play as they look to maintain their 1-0 series lead.
They will look to replicate the efforts of Laxman and Dhoni, who oozed class as their seventh-wicket partnership garnered their 15th and fourth centuries respectively.
But South Africa did have several opportunities to limit their impact and they will not be looking forward to the prospect of a marathon stand in the last two days in Kolkota.
Mishra made a nuisance of himself at the beginning of the day by wracking up 28 runs alongside Laxman. The nightwatchman hit five boundaries and was dropped by Jacques Kallis and Graham Smith before Kallis made amends by taking a catch at slip from a Morne Morkel delivery.
In overcast morning conditions Dhoni was slow to get his innings going, but it was while bowling to Laxman that South Africa had two chances to make another breakthrough.
First, the batsman mistimed a drive and the inside-edge was almost caught by a diving stand-in wicketkeeper AB de Villiers, while another offering was put down by JP Duminy when Laxman was on 48.
That allowed India to go into lunch on 431-6 and Dhoni and Laxman added a further 117 as they piled on the runs.
The pair both reached their respective centuries in the final session, making it only the second time that four Indian batsman have scored 100s in the same innings.
India then extended their lead past the 300 mark when Dhoni hammered Duminy for consecutive sixes before the declaration was made. Sourch : BBC Online
Man Utd as good as 1999 Treble-winning team: Says Beckham

AC Milan midfielder David Beckham says the current Manchester United team is as good as the Treble-winning side he was part of in 1999.
Beckham, 34, hopes to come up against his former club for the first time since he left in 2003 in Tuesday's Champions League last-16 first leg.
"I think they are as talented as the team back then," said Beckham.
"The Champions League is important to so many clubs. United are always going to be a strong team."
Beckham spent 12 years with United before joining Real Madrid and helped the Red Devils win the Champions League, Premier League and FA Cup in the historic Treble of 1999.
However, he insisted he will put emotion to one side in the first leg against his old team in Italy.
"It's going to be emotional but, as a United fan, it's the first time I am going to want them to lose," he stated.
"As an AC Milan player I want to beat United - it is important we win the game and progress to the next stage." Sourch : BBC Online

Manchester United suffer John O'Shea injury blow

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has said defender John O'Shea is likely to miss the rest of the season because of a leg problem.
O'Shea, 28, has not played since the Republic of Ireland's World Cup play-off against France in November as his nation failed to reach the finals.
Ferguson told the Irish Independent: "He's got a terrible injury - the blood clot became all knotted.
"It's a long process to clear it up and he'll probably miss the season now."
United have had problems in defence this season, with Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, Wes Brown, Rafael Da Silva, Fabio Da Silva and Gary Neville all having significant spells out of the game.
O'Shea's injury was initially thought to be nothing more serious than a dead leg.
However, Ferguson added: "It's one of those sorts of injuries that are unusual. It's like a dead leg except a dead leg is usually only three or four days.
"It's a bad blow for the boy and for the team because he can play anywhere.
"When you look at all the problems I've had with the back four this season, he could have played every single one."
Prior to suffering the injury to his leg, O'Shea had played 15 times for United this season as well as featuring in three World Cup qualifying games for the Republic of Ireland. BBC Website
Roger Federer into third round of Australian Open

Top seed Roger Federer eased into the third round of the Australian Open with a 6-2 6-3 6-2 dismantling of Victor Hanescu on Rod Laver Arena.
Federer, a three-time champion, hit 52 winners and was not broken once by his Romanian opponent.
Novak Djokovic, the 2008 champion, was well below his best as he beat Marco Chiudinelli in four sets.
The Serb, 22, dropped the first set and rarely impressed despite recovering to win 3-6 6-1 6-1 6-3.
Federer had been below his best in his opening match against Igor Andreev, when he dropped a set in the first round at a major for the first time in six years.
But he settled quickly against Hanescu, reeling off 20 winners in an opening set that lasted just 34 minutes.
The second set was captured in 33 minutes, despite Hanescu managing to nick three games, with the Swiss continuing to pepper the lines with winners.
Federer had already raced into a 3-0 lead in the third set when Prince William arrived, to the applause of the near-capacity 14,000 crowd, just an hour and 15 minutes after the start of the game. BBC Website

Aston Vialla Beat Blackburn Rovers 1-0 in Carling Cup 1st leg Semi Final

Milner rounded off a devastating break after 23 minutes when he turned in Stewart Downing's cross as Villa swept the length of the field.
It gave Martin O'Neill's side a deserved advantage and provided a rich reward for Villa's attacking strategy as they dominated a jaded Blackburn side playing their second game this week.
Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce felt the full force of Ewood Park's fury as his side laboured to make any impression on Villa in the early exchanges, with the half-time whistle being greeted by a chorus of jeering.
But Blackburn improved hugely after the break only to find their luck was out as striker Nikola Kalinic twice hit the woodwork, firstly with a close-range header, then with a shot from 12 yards.
Villa always carried the greater threat and will now be firm favourites to progress to a Carling Cup final date against either Manchester City or Manchester United, after Wednesday's second leg at Villa Park.
Robson suffers qualifying defeat

The 15-year-old, given a wildcard into the event, went down 6-4 7-6 (9-7) to the former world number 30 in two hours and five minutes.
Robson, the world number 406, will compete in the junior event at Melbourne Park.
Fellow Briton Naomi Cavaday faces Yanina Wickmayer later on Friday. BBC Website
Manager Rafael Benitez is not under threat: Liverpool

Benitez is under increasing pressure as boss after the loss to the Championship side, an early Champions League exit and poor Premier League form.
Despite his problems, the Spaniard has vowed to fight on at Anfield.
Former Reds captain Ronnie Whelan believes Benitez should be replaced following the defeat at the hands of the Royals.
Whelan, 48, told BBC Radio 5 live: "He should've gone a long time ago. They have got to do it now.
"Liverpool have not been good. They have lost 10 of the last 20 games.
A disappointing season has left Liverpool having to settle for a Europa League campaign, while lying seventh in the Premier League - 12 points behind leaders Chelsea - but Purslow has always maintained that Benitez's job is not under threat.
The misery continued on Wednesday night when Reading dumped them out of the FA Cup after extra time in front of their home supporters.
It was their 12th defeat of the season and after Benitez told the club's website he would "keep working hard with my team", another ex-Liverpool star expressed his displeasure.
Murray lies in Nadal's path at Australian Open

Andy Murray will face a qualifier in the first round of the Australian Open but he has been placed in arguably the toughest half of the draw.
Defending champion Rafael Nadal and US Open winner Juan Martin del Potro could block the Briton's path to the final.
Roger Federer is in the other side of the draw with Novak Djokovic and in-form Russian Nikolay Davydenko.
In the women's draw, wildcard Justine Henin avoided a seed, but could face Kim Clijsters in the quarter-finals.
There will be no all-Williams final as Venus and Serena landed in the same half of the draw.
World number one Serena will face Urszula Radwanska of Poland in her opening match.
Britain's two entrants Elena Baltacha and Katie O'Brien both drew opponents below them in the world rankings.
Baltacha will meet France's Pauline Parmentier, while O'Brien was drawn against Austrian Patricia Mayr.
Henin, 27, is preparing to play her first Grand Slam tournament since the 2008 Australian Open after 20 months in retirement.
She will meet fellow Belgian Kirsten Flipkens in the first round, before a possible meeting with world number five Elena Dementieva.
While Henin was the name the top players were hoping to avoid in the women's draw, all eyes were on Murray in the men's.
He dropped from fourth to fifth in the world rankings before the seedings were announced, and that meant Federer, Nadal, Djokovic or Del Potro could face the 22-year-old Scot as early as the quarter-finals.
Friday's draw means Murray may have to beat Nadal, Del Potro and Federer in successive matches to win his maiden Grand Slam title.
The Briton will discover his first-round opponent when qualifying ends on Sunday.
If he wins that match, he will come up against Marc Gicquel or Simone Bolelli, with Jurgen Melzer seeded to meet him in the third round.
Murray may have to beat the dangerous Gael Monfils if he is to get beyond the fourth round for the first time in Melbourne.
Del Potro could face Marin Cilic at that stage before a possible quarter-final against Andy Roddick.
Nadal will open the defence of his title against Australian Peter Luczak, while Federer could face an early test against world number 36 Igor Andreev.
Davydenko, who has beaten Federer in their last two meetings, could lie in wait for the world number one in the quarter-finals.
Djokovic, the 2008 champion, meets Spain's Daniel Gimeno-Traver.
Fourth seed Del Potro, who withdrew from the Kooyong Classic on Thursday with a wrist injury, is due to meet 31-year-old American Michael Russell.
The Argentine is set to play at Melbourne Park despite the injury, according to Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley.
"He decided to take a couple of days' break," Tiley told Australian state radio. "He obviously wants to start 2010 well."
Elsewhere in the women's draw, last year's beaten finalist Dinara Safina could meet fellow Russian Maria Sharapova in the fourth round.
Clijsters was drawn against a qualifier in the first round, but world number three Svetlana Kuznetsova looks likely to be her first test in the last 16. BBC Website

Laura Robson and Naomi Cavaday progress in qualifiers of Australian Open

Britons Laura Robson and Naomi Cavaday were made to work hard to reach round two of Australian Open qualifying on Thursday, while Melanie South lost.
Robson, 15, a wildcard entry after reaching the Hopman Cup final with Andy Murray last week, beat Australian hopeful Sophie Ferguson 6-4 2-6 6-4.
Cavaday, 20, beat Russian Alexandra Panova 3-6 7-6 6-3 and will next face world number 16 Yanina Wickmayer.
South, 23, rarely threatened American Shenay Perry in a 6-3 6-3 defeat.
It was another good day for Britain's tennis players at a blustery Melbourne Park following the three men's victories on Wednesday.
Robson, ranked 406 in the world, continued her fine form but had to overcome a few nervy moments in the final set against the 23-year-old Ferguson, 148th in the rankings.
The Briton, who beat Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, the world number 26, in the Hopman Cup final in Perth, let a 3-0 lead slip before breaking back to secure a hard-earned victory.
Robson will next play 21-year-old Michaella Krajicek, who reached the third round at the Australian Open in 2006, and said: "I can't remember the last time I played like that. It was really windy, and I obviously didn't play my best tennis.

Burnley appoint Laws as new boss

Burnley have appointed Brian Laws as manager on a two-and-a-half-year deal.
The ex-Clarets player, sacked by Championship side Sheffield Wednesday in December, succeeds Owen Coyle, who joined Bolton last week.
Laws, who will be unveiled at a 1530 GMT news conference on Wednesday, beat Doncaster's Sean O'Driscoll to the job.
"I have had an affinity with this club for a long time and I am honoured to have the privilege of managing them in the Premier League," Laws said.
He added on the club's website: "I am sure there are a lot of Burnley fans asking, 'Why Brian Laws?'
"Well let me tell you, I have followed Burnley since I was 16 years old, when I joined the club. This is a fantastic opportunity. Owen Coyle has done a fantastic job at this club. Nobody can ever take that away and I wouldn't want to even try.
"But at this moment in time he has dropped the baton and we want to pick it up with the supporters and drive on over the finishing line, which means we will have stayed in the Premier League.
"That is our drive and ambition and I will do everything in my power to achieve that because this great club is where it should be."
The first mission for Laws will be to ensure the Clarets do not get dragged into a relegation battle, with Burnley - in the top flight for the first time since 1976 and currently only two points above the drop zone - on 20 points after 20 games.
O'Driscoll was also approached as a potential successor to Coyle, having enjoyed success at Doncaster since 2006.
However, Laws was left as the front-runner when the Championship side revealed that enquiries had been made by a Premier League club for O'Driscoll's services but these were "now at an end". BBC Website
